Session 5
Session 4 Recap
Our adventurers began their day with a shopping spree, one where Chandani was the only one spending party funds. The party was too broke to purchase any potions or poisons, and the market hardly had any worthwhile adventuring supplies, so they settled for costumes, food and a healer's kit.
The party then headed towards Seline, looking to find out what she knows about this "Griselda". When she was questioned about the mausoleum, she cracked under pressure. She revealed that "Griselda" had promised to return her husband Reginald to life if she allowed her access to the mausoleum. Seline was meant to meet Griselda that same night at the mausoleum. Seline described Griselda to be a woman in her 40s, very pretty, long dark hair and looked suspiciously like her own mother. She apparently lived out in the woods, but her house was impossible to find. "It had to find you," she said. The party told her to proceed with the meeting that night while they waited in hiding.
That night, the party laid in wait, Chandani disguised as a ghoul while the rest hid within the side hallways. After a wait, Seline, Griselda and a priest entered the mausoleum. A fight quickly ensued, and after a brief misunderstanding, the priest stopped fighting the "ghoul" and played along. The party chased down the fleeing necromancer, opting to take her in for questioning rather than killing her.
When quizzed on what her plan was, she simply answered that it was "Mother's plan". Fuck. Griselda was not very forthcoming with information past the fact that she was acting on Mother's wishes and that she truly believed that Mother had the power to return Reginald to life. Unsatisfied, the party asked the priest whether they could cast Zone of Truth on her. He pointed them towards a hermit about a day away from Pilgrim's Rest who could do so. The party left immediately.
On the journey, the party interrogated Griselda further. A torrent of questions revealed even more revelations:
- She is from the Grasslands.
- Mother is not her biological mother, but Griselda wishes she was.
- Mother may have other children, but Griselda doesn't know.
- Mother raised Griselda; she grew up and lived with Mother.
- Mother found Griselda right after her biological sister died of exposure on the grass plains.
- The plan in Pilgrim's Rest was to unleash the undead onto the town to kill people, so they would have more bodies to raise - “to restore the balance".
- Mother intends to "bridge the gap" between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead.
- It seems like Griselda has been to the Feywild before
Hopefully the party can learn more in the hermit's Zone of Truth.
